5 TIPS THAT WILL HELP YOU CHOOSE A WEDDING DAY MAKEUP LOOK THAT YOU WILL LOVE FOREVER

Oct 27, 2022

Every detail that goes into your wedding is no less important than the detail before it. Brides carefully craft out every single detail and spark to make their wedding, theirs. When it comes to choosing a wedding day makeup look, there is just as much to consider as any other wedding detail. I have picked out my 5 BEST tips that will help your process of choosing your wedding day makeup look fun and easy! Enjoy, xo.

  1. Take a Peek at Your Comfortability Levels

Not only do you want to look amazing on your wedding day, but you want to feel amazing on your wedding day. Believe it or not, how you look is a direct reflection of how you feel. You can rock the best glam like nobody’s business but if you feel uncomfortable in it – that will show!

My first and most important tip that I have for any bride deciding what their wedding day glam will be is to take a peek at your makeup comfort levels. Are you someone who throws on the same mascara and concealer that they have had sitting in the bottom of their makeup drawer for who knows how long and calls it a day? Or are you someone who is first in line at Sephora for their favorite brand’s new product launch?

Let’s look at what you wear on a daily basis. How much makeup are you used to seeing yourself in when you walk out the door every morning? If your answer is little to none, chances are you would want to stick to a more natural/soft glam routine. If your answer is medium-full glam, your makeup comfort levels are most likely higher and you may be more used to seeing yourself with makeup on. Meaning, you can easily pick out a full glam routine and love it for the day of.

  1. Do You Have a Signature Look or Part of Your Routine That Makes You Feel Your Best?

The next approach you can take when determining your best suited makeup look is looking at what makes you, YOU. Before you say, “Oh, me? A signature look? Nooo, I don’t have a signature look..” Think again! We all have something that we incorporate into our beauty routine that makes us feel like us. Whether that be a soft flick of winged liner or a naturally dewy base from a 10-step morning skincare routine, we all got something.

Take a minute and think about that one thing that you simply have to add into your daily routine to make you feel like a million bucks. Then somehow see if you can incorporate that into your wedding day look. For example, I absolutely cannot do my everyday makeup routine without a tiny dark brown flick of eyeliner on the outer corners of my eyes. It makes me feel like my eyes are more open and inviting. Is that all in my head? Potentially. Will future me rock a dark brown flick of eyeliner on my wedding day? You betcha.

  1. Look at Your Complexion and Skin Tone

By now, you may have a better idea of what you are looking for in your wedding day makeup look. The next aspect we are going to look at is your natural skin complexion and skin tone. Every color and pigment will look different on each skin tone. When you are surfing the internet or social media for makeup inspiration photos, try searching your skin tone or undertone first. For example, instead of just typing “bridal makeup looks” into the search bar, try ‘fair skin bridal makeup looks’ or ‘korean bridal makeup looks’. Search whatever complexion or skin tone describes you! This will help your search process go more smoothly and help you pick out what will ultimately look the best on your complexion.

A general rule of thumb when it comes to skin undertones:

  • Warm undertones look best in warm tone pigments. In other words, yellow or red based colors. Gold, peach, warm toned browns, ambers, coppers, etc.
  • Cool undertones look best in cool tone pigments. In other words, blue or purple based colors. Mauves, pinks, cool tone browns, purples, lavender, rosey colors, etc.
  • Neutral undertones can pull off a wide range but they tend to look best in earthy colors. Greens, browns, champagne, taupes, ambers, etc.

With all of that to consider, remember to wear whatever makes you feel and look your best! There is no color you ‘shouldn’t’ wear, that is just a great way to look at complementary colors.

  1. Timeless Over Trendy

Oh, yes. Boy, do we love a good trend. Especially the wedding industry. Trends come in quick every season and tend to exit even quicker. Take my advice and avoid makeup trends(or any wedding trends for that matter) at all costs. Your wedding is something that you will look back on for the rest of your life. The last thing you want to think when you look back on photos of yourself is “ARGH, why did I choose that for my makeup look? That was soo 2022!”. We want timeless and elegance. Not trendy and tacky! If you like to be more adventurous with bright colors and bold looks, try and keep that to a girls night out. Timeless over trendy should always be a brides rule of thumb for her wedding day.

  1. Trials.. Trials.. Trials.

After reading this, you now probably have a pretty good idea of what you think will suit you best on your wedding day. Now it is time to put it to the test. Consult with your makeup artist, explain to them your vision(more detail the better) and see what it looks like on your face. This is called a trial run-through. If you take anything from this blog post, let it be this.. Do NOT skip out on a trial. This is incredibly important because even though you think you may have the perfect image of what your makeup will look like on your face, you could see it on and actually dislike it. Or want to change the lipstick shade, eyeshadow depth, etc. Ideally, a trial should be booked 2-3 months prior to your wedding. I have had out-of-state brides even book the day before the wedding. It doesn’t necessarily matter when the trial is booked, it matters that it actually gets booked.

There you have it! My 5 best tips when it comes to choosing a makeup look that you will absolutely love forever. Follow these 5 tips and I promise you will find the perfect makeup look for you, your comfort levels and your complexion. Happy Wedding Day!
